Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President of Finance will have overall leadership responsibility in Achaogen’s financial functions including financial reporting, compliance, external reporting and financial planning and analysis. Strong leadership skills with experience with managing a growing team in all accounting and finance related functions. Essential Functions: Provides strategic financial, accounting, and investment leadership for Achaogen. Builds, develops, and manages a high performing finance team to ensure effective operation of the function in carrying out needed initiatives. Oversees external financial reporting process. Provides financial analytic support for Achaogen’s investor relations activities. Oversees financial audits and provides recommendations for procedural improvements. Acts as excellent liaison with external auditors, including diligence and comfort process. Oversees, maintains and establishes financial controls and operational processes that balance controls/risk management with flexibility inherent to staying nimble and fostering our entrepreneurial culture. Oversees Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Establishes and develops a tax planning, analysis and compliance competency. Oversees treasury functions. Responsible for accurate management and timely preparation of all Achaogen’s financial recommendations to Executive Committee and Board of Directors including the Audit Committee. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary and pricing reporting requirements, including Sunshine Act reporting. Acts as a Strategic leadership of planning and implementation of Achaogen’s financial systems, in partnership with Information Technology. Provides accounting and business expertise to corporate development transactions, including collaboration agreements. Oversees Achaogen’s FP&A efforts to support strategic planning and support for functional decision making. Partners with relevant business development functions for business development analysis and execution. Preferred Experience: 15+ years of related work experience, primarily in the biopharmaceutical industry and public company. Strong accounting and financial reporting background. CPA with experience in an accounting firm, with heavy exposure to SEC and financial reporting. Proven strong track record of successful filings with SEC under SOX environment. Experience working in a large multinational corporation. Extensive experience in the general ledger, monthly close process and financial reporting, internal financial controls, and knowledge of GAAP and issues related to FASB, SEC. Preferred Education: BS / BA in Finance/Accounting. MBA or Graduate degree and / or equivalent preferred. Preferred Skills: Strong executive leadership skills with experience in growing and leading a high performance team of finance professionals. Superior analytical and problem solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor. Expertise in the areas of controllership, corporate accounting, controls, SEC and tax – significant prior public company experience is a must. Ability to demonstrate effective leadership in ambiguous and frequently changing situations. A great simplifier, ensuring effective communication (written / oral), presentation and organization skills. Strong business partnering ability. Proven strategic thinker and experience leading complex projects with a cross functional team based mindset. Able to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a positive, collaborative manner. Ability to work well on cross-functional basis internally and with business partners and drive for results.
