Job Description CalWest's client school, The Urban School of San Francisco, is looking for an intellectually vibrant, energetic college senior, graduate student, or young professional with distinctive academic credentials, excellent communication skills, an interest in teaching as a career, and a desire to work as an apprentice teacher over the course of one school year. The Teaching Fellow program is designed to help increase the ranks of independent school teachers from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. For the 2018-2019 school year we are seeking a Teaching Fellow in English. Through the program, the English Teaching Fellow will: gain a deep understanding about what constitutes good teaching an appreciation of the role of independent schools in the world of education a strong sense of his or her own emerging talent and potential as a participant in a school community The Fellow is also encouraged to participate in conferences and workshops related to his or her academic discipline as well as co-curricular areas of interest. The academic year will be modeled as such: In the fall, the Fellow observes classes and assumes some teaching responsibilities with a mentor teacher present. In the winter and spring, the Fellow takes full responsibility for teaching several 10th grade core courses, working in collaboration with another teacher in the department who is teaching the same course. All classes are taught in an intensive, seminar-style format that lasts twelve weeks (the equivalent of a semester).
