Job Description UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, is accepting applications for classroom instructors within its Art and Design Department for the User Experience Design (UX) Program. We are currently seeking classroom instructors with expertise in the following areas: HTML5 CSS3 Diagramming, Prototyping and Wireframing For more information on UC Berkeley Extension programs, please visit the following: Graphic Design Program Page: https://extension.berkeley.edu/public/category/courseCategoryCertificateProfile.do?method=load & certificateId=17023#collapse_1 User Experience Design Program page at: ?method=load & certificateId=29918624 & selectedProgramAreaId=11461 & selectedProgramStreamId=15551 Responsibilities In this role, you will be responsible for teaching students (graphic and UX designers) the following: Developing web graphics and seamless boutique websites and Apps HTML5 and CSS3 and Java script User interface design principles Integrating Adobe applications, such as Photoshop and/or Illustrator to produce web graphics. Creating animations through CSS3 Designing Grid Systems for Web: Skeleton, neat, simple grid, profound grid, griddle, extra strength responsive grids, proportional grids, dead simple grid, responsive grid system, CSS smart grid, and gridlock Designing front end web application components based on projects specs. Writing project specifications and requirements based on technical and functional needs for each of the projects, quizzes, or assignments proposed. Writing and demonstrating well designed, testable and efficient code by using web development best practices How to stay up-to-date with latest standards, technologies, frameworks or trends in the industry. How to test UI pages using various browser types and browser versions. Providing students with feedback about their projects and ensuring that they learn course objectives and content. You will also be responsible for attending occasional instructor’s meetings and informational sessions. Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study required (Master’s degree preferred) eg, UX design, web design and development, product design and development, graphic design, interaction design, human computer interaction, game design and development, filmmaking or animation. Three or more years’ industry experience (required). Must possess skills to design and develop functional and well-designed sites and apps using HTML5, CSS3 and Java script. Other programming languages and software skills are welcome. Must have a strong understanding of UI, cross-platform / cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards. Hands on experience and knowledge of working with HTML5, multiple Grid systems, Mobile Web browser optimized responsive design/coding. Understanding of bit-depth, pixel-density and resolution issues. Graphic user interface (GUI) screen layout and composition. Knowledge of existing and new technologies and constraints. Ability to create or modify CSS, CSS Sprites and CSS animations. Ability to teach responsive design supporting desktop, mobile and tablet as well as all browsers, including walking students through the design process of a website from sketch to production by taking in consideration information architecture and user experience methods. Ability to guide students in the learning process and be able to explain concepts clearly, teach code in a digestible manner and help trouble shoot student’s websites and apps. Ability to commit time to approximately 36 hours for the length of the course section. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail (required). Exceptional written communication, technical, expository and composition skills (required) Solid public speaking and presentation skills (required). Preferred: Experience teaching adult learners in a college/university environment (preferred). Corporate teaching, coaching or training experience (preferred). Experience in course development, including creating course objectives and assignments/assessments (preferred). Experience or comfort using the following technologies (preferred): Any of the following Software : Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Experience Design, Sketch, Axure, Invision, OmniGraffle, Lucidchart; Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Angel, Blackboard, Moodle, EdX, etc.); Office Software Apple iWork (Keynote, Pages and Numbers); Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint); Google Home and Office tools (docs, sheets, slides, etc.); online file sharing (eg, Google drive, Box, Dropbox, etc.); Online tele/video conferencing tools (eg, Google Hangouts, Skype, BlueJeans, Adobe Connect, etc.). Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience and course length. Instructor appointments are part-time by agreement for the length of the course section. Classroom courses are located in the San Francisco Bay Area and Belmont. The time commitment is on a semester basis, starting in March 2018.
