Agency Description: Founded in 1974, Wah Mei School (WMS) is a Sunset neighborhood based 501c3 not-for-profit organization. The mission of the organization is to provide a safe and nurturing high quality Chinese-English multicultural environment that promotes children's development while building a supportive community for families. We believe that multilingual and multicultural experiences are part of the healthy development of the whole child and that dual language learning needs to be given equal weight in the educational program. Position Overview: Wah Mei School is seeking energetic and passionate candidates to serve as Summer Camp Leader for our 8 week summer program. Candidates need to value diversity and youth enrichment that is enhanced by relationship building. Summer Camp Leaders will be responsible for planning and executing enriching program activities, supervising groups of school-age participants, arranging field trips, and carrying out tasks that support the engaging, highly enriched, and safe delivery of a successful camp experience. This position requires a commitment to the WMS mission and its core values. Key Responsibilities * Plan, lead and implement core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting of a 12:1 ratio. * Provide leadership and guidance to the program participants through the ability to motivate, lead, guide and support children's learning. * Effectively interact and supervise camp participants at all times, ensuring a physical and emotional safe environment. * Active facilitation of activity plans for youth development, health, physical activity, cultural competency. * Ensure the health and safety of participants such as but not limited to promptly recording all injury and incidents and reporting them to your immediate supervisor. * Build strong relationship with children and the school site community/summer day camp. * Be enthusiastic and maintain a positive attitude. * Perform all other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Education, Skills and Experience: * Associates of Arts/Science degree in Child & Adolescent Development, Social Welfare, or Psychology or related field, Bachelor's degree preferred. Three years of experience can be substituted for formal degree. * English and Catonese and/or Mandarin * Experience working with K-5 grade children. * Leadership experience such as but not limited to supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants. * Strong supervisory and organizational skills. * Demonstrate the ability to care about and give attention to participant's needs. * Be reliable and dependable. * Certified in CPR and First Aid. * Ability to pass fingerprint and DOJ clearance. * Ability to provide TB clearance. * Must be able to work weekdays between June 11 - August 3, 2018. Be available for training week, June 4th to June 8th. Position is full-time temporary Wah Mei School was the first Chinese American bilingual preschool to be established in San Francisco. Since our first class in 1974, our program has successfully promoted multiculturalism in developmental activities that emphasize both learning and playing for our young students. Each child's individual strengths and needs are recognized, valued, and integrated into the program. Classes are conducted in both English and Chinese, so the children develop proficiency in both languages. Wah Mei School serves children ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old. The school operates year round state-funded and private programs from July 1 through June 30. Our hours of operation are 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
