Gender and sexual behavior have historically been a sensitive subject when connected to science, but The Leakey Foundation’s newest Science Speakeasy aims to change that.

“Evolution and Gender Revolution”, taking place June 20 from 6-9 pm at Public Works, will examine whether gender and sexual differentiation can be connected to evolution and human origins.

Dr. Stephanie Meredith will be one of the featured speakers and will be discussing the development of sex-typical behavior in our closest living relatives—the non-human primates. She has done long-term research on sex-typical behavioral development in ring-tailed lemurs in Madagascar and is now developing research projects focusing on hamadryas baboons in Ethiopia.

Science Speakeasy, presented by The Leakey Foundation, was designed to inspire enthusiasm for science in a fun, spirited and accessible way, providing people with the ability to socialize and meet new friends. The event pairs unique speakers with signature cocktails, delicious food, music, and more.
