The Associate Specialist will contribute engineering, technical, and organizational assistance to the operation of the HART Laboratory at UC Berkeley and in collaboration with projects at UC San Francisco.
The HART Lab develops human assistive models and devices for individuals with neuromuscular conditions such as stroke, spinal-cord injury, and ALS. The specialist will aid in the development and maintenance of hardware platforms, and work with the technical, clinical, and patient teams to develop device specifications and evaluation criteria.
This position combines a technical proficiency with a mentorship role, assisting other lab members with the development and testing of these devices.

Appointment Length:
This is a full time one-year position with the possibility of being extended a second year. Anticipated start date is January 31st, 2018.

Responsibilities
Duties will include maintaining inventory, equipment, and test devices in the lab. Under direct supervision, the specialist will assist in the design and development of assistive devices, and aid in the analysis of experimental data. The position is expected to learn and apply safe laboratory and shop practices.
Will work independently after training and may also train and lead undergraduate student employees.

Basic Qualifications: At time of application
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in engineering or related field

Additional Qualifications: By start date
• Minimum of five years experience with 3D modelling, standard manufacturing methods (milling, turning, FDM),
• Minimum of five years experience in human factors/biomechanical research.
• Minimum of five years experience in textile patterning

Preferred Qualifications:
• Candidate should be an efficient, self-motivated individual with demonstrated organizational skills and training in orthotic research.

Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on UC Berkeley salary scales. The salary range is $54,744-$65,904 (steps 1-4)
