Position Summary

Under the leadership of the Senior Director, the Director will participate in the management, administration and strategic direction of the Gift Planning & Endowment Department. In addition, s/he is responsible for soliciting, cultivating, and stewarding a portfolio of up to 300 planned giving prospects and donors and closing deferred and current gifts in support of the KQED Endowment.

Essential Functions:

* (60%) Maintains a personal portfolio of up to 300 actively engaged donors and prospects. Solicits the full range of planned gifts with emphasis on bequests, retirement plan gifts, charitable gift annuities, and charitable remainder trusts. Averages ten face-to-face meetings or high contacts per month with donors, prospects and professional advisors. Makes an average of four planned gift proposals per month. Works closely with the VP Development and major gift officers to secure deferred and current endowment gifts from major donors, current KQED members, and non-members. Supports their efforts to identify and cultivate prospects for endowment gifts.

* (20%) In consultation with the Senior Director, assists with the design and production of marketing materials, including on-air promotion of planned giving.

* (15%) In consultation with the Senior Director, assists with planning and implementation of donor cultivation and stewardship events.

* Other duties as required (5%).

Dollars Directly Accountable For: Responsible for closing at least 11 new revocable and at least 2 new irrevocable gift commitments per year. Responsible for closing at least $675,000 face value in planned gifts per year. This position plays an essential role in helping to grow the KQED Endowment (Permanent and Board-Designated) and other managed planned gift assets.

Experience/Skills Required

* 5+ years of experience in major/planned giving fundraising.

* Expertise in gift planning principles and vehicles.

* Experience cultivating and closing planned gifts.

* Experience with marketing of planned giving or related fundraising program.

* Proficiency with gift planning software tools.

* Ability to interact on a professional level with donors' legal and financial advisors.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience with direct donor relationships.

* Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with ease, efficiency and attention to detail.

* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

* Strong writing skills.

* Computer proficiency and data management experience required. Experience with the MS Office suite and Salesforce highly desirable. Must be willing to learn new systems.
