This position is the second level of Operator:in:training for the facility. The successful candidate will work day shift as a Mechanic to help round out their knowledge of plant systems as part of the learning process. The Operator III will continue on the path to becoming proficient in plant operating systems including the water, fuel gas, fuel oil, air and flue gas systems. This will also include a basic understanding of boiler operating principals and ancillary system functions. It requires demonstrating NRG principles of safe work practices, environment stewardship, teamwork, and ethics.
:The employee must be able to understand and carry:out instructions as required by the job. Must demonstrate a willingness follow company and facility procedures, and demonstrate a willingness to learn new systems and new equipment as needed.
:Become proficient in NRG Safety, Security, and Environmental requirements as these pertain to the plant. Complete Safety and Environmental training programs following initial and annual training as assigned. Recognize safety and environmental hazards and follow safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public and understand the Policies on Safety and Environmental over production.
:Ability to Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) equipment per NRG LOTO procedure.
:Ability and willingness to receive shipments of hazardous materials.
:Security operations including contractor and visitor entry procedures.
:Ethics and Teamwork are essential characteristics that must be developed and demonstrated. The operating staff must seamlessly interface with maintenance, instrumentation and distribution personnel.
:Maintain, inspect, and monitor in a safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manner steam plant equipment (i.e. Boiler / Furnace equipment, Turbines and associated auxiliary equipment, Fuel Systems, Plant Auxiliary Systems includes valves, pumps, blowers, Environmental Control Process equipment, and Water Treatment Systems).
:Assist with boiler overhauls, piping and pipe fitting, and troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems.
:Must work effectively with all plant personnel as well as the public.
:Perform routine maintenance on a variety of plant equipment boilers, traps, valves, piping systems, etc.
:Perform routine cleaning of work area.
:Employee must arrange own transportation to work location(s).
:Must be fluent in English and must be able to effectively communicate with all other plant personnel as well as the public. The ability to communicate by phone and email is essential.
:Ability to use a personal computer and associated software (at a minimum: MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook).
:Candidates must receive a rating onf Recommended on the NRG Pre:employment assessment test.
:High school diploma or GED Equivalent required.
:Minimum of three (3) years of experience in one or more of the following areas is required:

Desirable Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
:Knowledge of steam plant system operations and basic plant principles used daily in decision making and work tasks.
:Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation of boilers and steam plant operations.
