NRG Renew invites applications from experienced solar engineers with design and engineering experience to join NRG's Design Engineering team. Typical projects include commercial rooftop, carport, and ground mount solar and utility scale PV projects, and an increasing number of hybrid:renewable generation project opportunities to integrate solar, wind or other clean energy sources with conventional diesel power systems, energy storage and demand management technologies. Successful candidate(s) will be able to create and/or manage resources to create high quality preliminary design documents needed to adequately assess new project opportunities and win competitive RFPs or other bidding processes; and own the design tools, templates, and process for providing those preliminary designs. The Sr. PV Design Engineer will work closely with NRG's internal departments including: origination, development, project engineering, construction, procurement, project finance, and O and M as well as with EPC contractors, Independent Engineers, financing parties, and other consultants, contractors, and stakeholders as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
:Lead design engineer responsible for providing preliminary array layout documents for the origination and development teams supporting commercial, community solar, and utility scale solar bidding opportunities
:Manage all resources internally or externally as necessary to prepare preliminary designs for internal customers
:Develop internal tools, templates, and guidelines to accurately and quickly assess new project sites, identify constraints and communicate initial system sizes and site challenges
:Develop a robust process to manage design requests from multiple internal customers, develop standard deliverables and service level agreements to provide those deliverables
:Track and manage tasks to support the origination pipeline of new project opportunities
:Review and incorporate due diligence reports into preliminary design documents to help lock project scope and create design documents to be used as the contractual basis with NRG's EPC partners
:Assess and thoroughly communicate and quantify preliminary site constraints
:Provide optimized equipment selection(modules, inverters, racking) in order to maximize system size and energy output while minimizing levelized cost of energy
:Attend and/or manage personnel who will attend site walks to gather preliminary site assessment information to be used in the early stage design and scoping documentation
:Technical support and management of internal business development programs and initiatives
:B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or related subject : M.S. degree and/or P.E. desirable
:5+ years of solar design experience, including direct EPC experience completing or supporting the detailed design, permitting, and construction of solar projects
:Excellent AutoCAD and solar design software skills(Helioscope, etc.)
:Experience creating drafting and printing standards and best practices, creating templates and tools to quickly and consistently produce professional design documents
:Understanding of solar project design and optimization tradeoffs and familiarity with current solar market, equipm
