Our Family Coalition advances equity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) families with children through support, education, and advocacy.

Our Just Schools Program works directly with school communities to introduce LGBTQ-inclusive curricula and positive climate/safe school practices in elementary schools. We have trained more than 2,000 educators, impacting tens of thousands of students in California.

Our Family Coalition has recently worked on ensuring that California public schools adhere to the FAIR Education Act and adopt history and social science books that have representations of LGBT history and individuals.

Because of this we have set up a website to help with this transition and to house lesson plans and resources for educators. We are in need of an individual who can help organize, create systems, and upkeep this information hub. The existing hub is at and currently houses 50+ documents.

The site will have national impact as, thus far, we provide the only resource hub for LGBT-inclusive history lesson plans and we are positive that constituencies in other states will want to replicate the success we’ve had in California.

Design a controlled vocabulary to support user searching for lesson plans and educational resources and which will allow future authors to self-assign vocabulary terms
Categorize lesson plans and educational resources and enhance descriptions with appropriate search tags
Create and maintain a system of retrieval that is robust enough to anticipate 3-5 years of collection growth
Adapt our website to include an easy-to-use interface for target audience(s)
Research new resources to be included in the hub
Devise a streamlined process for upkeep of the site

Familiarity with Wordpress preferred but not necessary
Experience with library science or information systems
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Good organization and time-management skills
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Comfortable and excited about working with diverse community groups
Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to LGBT equality and social justice

Interns are accepted on an on-going, as needed basis. Minimum 2 month commitment; 4-16 hours/week; start/end date flexible. Our office is located in San Francisco, easily accessible by public transportation.
