Smart Life Forum presents:

Functional Medicine. the Future of Health Care, Self-Care, & Longevity

Thursday, November 19, 7:00pm-9:30pm, Palo Alto

MORE INFO: http://www.smartlifeforum.org

Adiel Tel-Oren, MD, is a holistic scientist who educates doctors and the public about nutritional and environmental medicine, functional medicine (science-based, holistic approaches to diagnosis and therapy), and disease prevention via truly natural lifestyle and dietary modification.

The common approach of allopathic (orthodox) medicine focuses mainly on suppressing the symptoms using artificial substances, which pharmacology and toxicology experts agree are toxic and poisonous for the body, as their central or primary effect.

Functional Medicine concerns itself with an extremely wide variety of health disturbances. The common denominator for these disturbances appears to be chronic stress, which may typically be thought of as deriving from mental or emotional origin, although many other factors can stress the body, like unhealthy food, nutritional deficiencies, environmental toxins, insufficient rest, infections, physical strain, and injury. All these factors contribute to the body's level of "total stress" - causing it to cross a previously invisible threshold where chronic health disturbances can manifest.

By modifying the patient's activities, nutrient levels, toxic exposure, emotional status, and behavioral patterns based on the individual's unique genetic structure, functional test results, psycho-emotional and medical history, examination findings, and environmental exposures, we can create the necessary biochemical changes that enhance the protection of DNA in times of undue stress.

Tel-Oren, an MD trained in Europe and the USA (licensed in Europe), is President Emeritus of the University of Natural Medicine (Santa Fe, New Mexico), where he is Dean of Medical Sciences and Professor of Functional and Nutritional Medicine. He is also founder and president of: FDH Foundation - promoting cutting-edge scientific knowledge and technologies that empower people to prevent and reverse disease.

Cine+Mαs SF’s debut of The San Francisco Latino Film Festival (November 5-25, 2009) arrives in theatres, museums and cultural centers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area spanning four cities over three weeks. Building on the traditions of the former SF International Latino Film Festival, Cine+Mαs SF scope will encompass Latino arts beyond film to include other visual, performance, and literary arts. Cine+Mαs SF contributes to the Bay Area’s active and diverse arts scene through its signature event, the San Francisco Latino Film Festival, year-round programming and special events.

The SFLFF program includes award winning and critically acclaimed documentaries and feature films from Argentina, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, and the USA.

The festival will open with SPOKEN WORD by Victor Nuρez. This drama revolves around a young San Francisco based poet and spoken word artist that heads back to New Mexico upon learning of his father’s illness leading him face his conflict ridden past.

A short list of standout films include: 389 MILES by Luiscarlos Davis, award winning documentary about life along the Mexico and Arizona; THE WATERCOLORIST by Daniel Ro a feature from Peru about a man who decides to follow his passion as an artist; HERMAPHRODITE by Albert Xavier- a feature film about gender identity out of the Dominican Republic inspired by a true story; FINAL IMAGE a documentary from Argentina by Andres Habegger about a Argentine cameraman gunned down at the hands of the Pinochet regime in the ‘70’s and the journalist that pursues justice; NESIO from Mexico by Alan Coton, a feature about small time criminals scraping by in the margins of Mexico City; MEET THE HEAD OF JUAN PEREZ by Emilio Portes from Mexico, a black comedy involving a circus, a magician and a guillotine; FORGOTTEN INJUSTICE is a powerful documentary of a little known part of American history involving the mass deportation of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the ‘30’s by first time Mexican-American filmmaker Vicente Serrano.
The festival will close with two award-winning comedic dramas: GIGANTE by Argentine filmmaker Adrian Biniez & LAST ONE FOR THE ROAD by Mexican director Eva Lopez-Sanchez. GIGANTE won the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Lion this year.

Colonial Arts is proud to present the exhibition -- "Retablo: Behind the Altar," a collection of Paul LeBaron Thiebaud. This special exhibition which will include over 100 retablo paintings, and opens October 22, 2009, with a reception from 6pm until 9pm, and will be on view through December 1, 2009.

Retablos, better known as laminas in Mexico, are small paintings on tin, wood or copper and have become more and more visible as folk art has developed a larger following in recent years. Paul Thiebaud has been an avid collector for over twenty years and states "They were naive, authentic, magical and inexpensive. They are at once reverent and personal, painterly and sculptural and simple and powerful".

James Eddy's gallery, Colonial Arts is an excellent choice to display this outstanding work, since it will be in the company of other fine collections of Spanish colonial art, Mexican folk art and crafts that also cover this period. James has been familiar with the quality and depth of this collection and enthusiastically championed these amazing gems.

Sex-Porn Addict Therapy/ Counseling Doesn’t Work: Report from California on Men and Sexual Addiction

Click this link to learn more about sexual addiction counseling:

http://californiasexaddicts.wordpress.com/

Small part of the article below:

"Traditional counseling can leave 90% of your issue untouched. This is why clients remain in traditional counseling for 18 months on average…

On top of this memory statistic, addictive behaviors are learned automatic responses to triggers.

This type of triggered learning was first explained by Russian Physician, Dr. Ivan Pavlov, and nicknamed named “Pavlov’s Law”.

Pavlov tested ringing a bell while simultaneously presenting dogs with food. Before long, the dogs ‘learned’ to salivate to the sound of the bell, without the food. The bell became a ‘trigger’ for the response of salivation.

Addictions have triggers just like the bell. On the 10% conscious level they don’t seem to make reasonable sense. The reasons lie in the 90%.

Obviously if a form of counseling worked and made logical sense, without taking years to complete, men would be more enthusiastic". To read more click here...
