GABA (German American Business Association) presents:

3D printing in Medicine - Future Fountain of Youth?

Wednesday, October 11, 6:00pm-9:00pm, San Francisco

If printing organs and tissue, heart valves and skin sounds like science fiction, welcome to the brave new world of 3D printing in medicine.

Advances in developing 3D printing, or additive manufacturing, and expiration of important patents in the additive manufacturing industry after 2009 have enabled the expansion of 3D printing into many different technology areas. The ability of printing precise, complex and individual features has also opened new roads for medicine. While 3D printing is well underway for dentals and prosthetics, significantly reducing time and costs of production, one of the most exciting developments is the possibility for bioprinting of tissue and organs. Tumor models are built to better research diseases and organ models, like liver tissue, help to test drugs in a more real live environment than in mice or other systems. Is 3D printing of complete organs in the future?

We'll discuss what's possible today and peak into the future of 3D printing for medicine with experts in this area. Dr. Jenny Chen, MD, founder and CEO of 3DHeals, will moderate the session and guide us through the 3D printing world in medicine.
