Winchester Orchestra presents:

VENUE CHANGE - Winchester Orchestra Favorites- Mozart, Rossini, Bizet

October 8, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., San Jose

Winchester Orchestra celebrates its season of all-star favorites with int'l award-winning violinist Bella Hristova and WO's concertmaster Bill Palmer performing in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. The work has a "...wonderful interplay between...dominant...violin and the...viola...that is always a delight...smooth, fluid rhythms..." J. Puccio

Another favorite: Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture "one of the most loved and best recognized works in the classical/opera repertoire...Even hearing it...the first's instantly memorable - especially...when the violins set off like race horses, first trotting steadily then building up to a full gallop....Not for nothing was Rossini nicknamed Signor Crescendo." S. Rahim,

Also on the program a collection from Bizet's Carmen with soloists from Bay Shore Lyric Opera. His music mesmerizes us with "a haunting and ethereal quality that is irresistible, reaching an emotional climax in the flute and harp solo...the music has the beauty of French music in abundance..." Petrushka

About the soloists:
Bella Hristova
"Every sound she draws is superb..." The Strad "...the mix of exuberance, dignity and finesse was ideal...The clean and silvery tone she produced on her Amati violin at the opening and the cadenzas, and the warmth and restraint of the slow movement were simply magical. At the same time Hristova went into the extrovert brilliance and bravura of the finale with...unparalleled technique and assurance." The Press, Christchurch, New Zealand

Bill Palmer
Taking the solo viola part is WO's concertmaster, Bill Palmer. He has served in principal or concertmaster positions for many Bay Area orchestras with a number of professional recordings. He is the veteran of innumerable performances with symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles, and has been involved in discovering upcoming generations of performers through his work as a board member of the Meadowmount School of Music and the Irving M. Klein Competition.
