Winchester Orchestra presents:

Rodeos, Concerti & Wilderness - Winchester Orchestra

Friday, March 24, 7:30pm-9:30pm, San Jose

MORE INFO: http://www.winchesterorchestra.com

Maestro Michael DiGiacinto and Winchester Orchestra present Aaron Copland's Rodeo which musically tells the age-old love story with a touch of the Old West-girl falls in love, girl suffers, girl wins her cowboy-experience it all and more...

Composer Henry Mollicone returns to guest conduct his own Violin Concerto with soloist Alexander Eisenberg. First movement, "Tarantella," a dance which, in ancient times, if bitten by a tarantula, thought to be a dance that was a musical exorcism-a popular, energetic, usually fast dance; Second is a "Meditation." a long lyrical melody developed mainly in the violin; next a "Toccata" which is fast and technically challenging for the violin and can be defined as a virtuoso piece; and finally, "In Paradiso" a musical attempt to portray the beauty of heaven.

Also under the Mollicone baton: Into the Wilderness by noted local composer Kerry Lewis, who comments about his work, "Wilderness is an untamed, uncharted place that we must enter with courage and resolution...a wild, mysterious place where we find unexpected wonders to delight us..a place of solitude that calls us...to seek the still, small voice...from beyond ourselves"

Music Director DiGiacinto also conducts Carl Maria von Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 2 with award-winning soloist Ray Wyant (winner of the MCS 2016 Young Artist Competition). This concerto is said to be extremely demanding of the soloist and "the solo unexpectedly begins its existence...in a most vivid way." James Manheim
