California Historical Society presents:

Psychedelic Soul - Black Cultural Awakening - Encounter 2: Aspirations

Thursday, July 13, 6:30pm-8:00pm, San Francisco

MORE INFO: https://my.californiahistoricalsociety.org/single/EventDetail.aspx?p=454

This second encounter in the Psychedelic Soul series examines the explosion of activity - cultural, social, and political - that took place in this historical moment in 1967. The many social strands of society that were being transformed and confronted could be thought of as a singular force of its own, a wave of consciousness and a sense that people collectively were creating something entirely new. The series "Psychedelic Soul" is presented by the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) and the California Historical Society.

The panel includes: Avotcja Jiltonilro, the award winning poet and multi-instrumentalist, writer, teacher and radio host who has been engaging in the music and culture of the African Diaspora since the 1960s. Rosa Lee Brooks, the accomplished multi-instrumentalist musician and performer. Archbishop F.W. (Franzo Wayne) King, the leader of the Saint John Will-I-Am Coltrane African Orthodox Church, which has been combining music and spirituality in San Francisco since 1967. The event will be moderated by Rickey Vincent, author of Party Music and lecturer at UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts.
