San Francisco Shakespeare Festival presents:

Free Shakespeare in the Park's 'Hamlet'

July 22-August 6, 2017, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 7:30 pm, Cupertino

In 2017, the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival celebrates 35 years as the Bay Area's acclaimed provider of free and accessible Shakespeare performances. For this historic year, SF Shakes will present "Hamlet" for the first time at Free Shakespeare in the Park. The play, about the questionable succession of King Claudius to the throne of Denmark over his nephew Prince Hamlet, speaks strongly about disenfranchisement, frustration, and the need for action during troubled times. Hamlet is torn between revenging his father's murder and going along quietly with the new regime, including his mother Queen Gertrude. Finding an ally in the audience, he shares his inner turmoil in a series of soliloquies which have become familiar all over the world - from "Oh, what a rogue and peasant slave am I" to "To be or not to be" to "How all occasions do inform against me."

Audiences can further their enjoyment of this production by attending "Hamleton", a 15-minute Green Show, 30 minutes before the performance. This informative show provides context and historical background for the play in a fun, family-friendly format.

No tickets or reservations are needed for these complimentary shows. Bring your family, friends, a blanket, and a picnic to enjoy professional theater at no charge!

"We believe that experiencing this 400-year-old play with a neighbor seated beside you here in the park can promote empathy and conversation and create bridges across divides" says Artistic Director Rebecca Ennals. "We look forward to welcoming newcomers as well as long-time fans."
