In the summer of 1993, approximately 4,000 participants from 100 countries
gathered in Washington D.C. to realize a groundbreaking project -- a collective
effort to focus on peace by means of Transcendental Meditation. The result was
a decrease of violent crimes in the Nation's Capital by around 25%, which was
exactly what the event's organizers had expected.
Two decades have since elapsed, during which time many acts of pernicious
violence have taken place, from September 11
children on school grounds.
We think it is time again for us to make another concerted effort to counter
these recent senseless aggressions, which is why we would like to invite you to
come to Mission Dolores Park, located at Dolores Street, between 18
Streets, San Francisco, on Sunday, August 11
The main objective will be to rally for peace, in any way or form -- from
meditation to prayers, or by any other means of attaining the purpose.
This event will obviously not have the scope or depth of its Washington
predecessor, nor is it our intent to match that very professionally organized
gathering. We would simply like to contribute in a likewise way, within our modest
means, inspired by the words of wisdom penned by Edward Everett Hale:
"I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do
everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do."
The event will be totally informal in that there will be no schedules or
procedures to follow; there will be no speeches or presentations of any kind, so
be prepared to spend your time any way you want, as long as you are thinking of
Bring your friends and everyone else who might be interested. Word of mouth
is the only means of divulging this event, so please help in any way you can - the
more, the more effective, so let's get together and give peace another chance.

I am only one,
But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something;
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

Edward Everett Hale
